The Welsh Weather......Unpredicable in a Good Way

Seven rowers turned up to row this evening in the face of fast deteriorating weather - cold with some wind chill and the first spots of rain falling from a very grey looking sky.  Issy elected not to row as she had already had a full day on the hill - leaving six rowers to press on.  We launched with little optimism and expected a short grim row.  As it turned out it soon stopped raining, brightened up and the wind dropped to produce a beautiful evening complete with red setting sun.

The tide was also with us which enabled us to run with the last of the incoming tide as far as The Britannia Bridge which we took at slack water.  Then, on the return we ran with the start of the ebbing tide.  This made for swift and pleasant rowing and as far a row as we'd ever managed on an evening.  So from a poor outlook we had a magnificent row; darkness only arriving on the final stretch back to Plas Menai.  Tonight we also tried out our new stern light on a longer pole, this is a great improvement as it's height means it doesn't blind the rowers.  On Saturday the clocks advance an hour which signals the start of the summer rowing season - warm long evening rows with the odd beer thrown in for good measure.
